There is a common myth that the darker the colour of the yolk the better the egg but there is very little nutritional difference between the two extremes of pale yellow to rich orange yolks.
The colour of the egg yolk varies depending on the amount of carotenoid pigment in the laying hen’s diet. Scraps such as carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach and papaya are all high in carotenoids. So while a darker yolk can appear better it is more important to ensure your laying hens have access to a range of food sources for best hen health and egg quality.
